His story is foundational folklore for the Finnish identity, though in modern times some side with Lalli, Henry’s murderer, viewing him as a nationalist hero resisting a foreign invader. Still others, due in large part to the miraculous aspects of the story and that it was exclusively an oral tradition for a century, doubt that the account happened at all.
