While rewatching Jurassic Park the other night, I noticed that Dennis Nedry’s dinosaur embryo theft cannister was disguised as a Barbasol shaving cream cannister. I have warm feelings for Barbasol and those feels were created by excellent marketing.
Some of you might remember that a decade and a half ago, the greatest ad in shaving cream history began running on American television. I don’t think it runs anymore, but I still sing the jingle when I’m feeling particularly patriotic. I know many of my readers do not live in the U.S. Honestly, I’m not even sure you can play this YouTube video in your home countries. I hope you can though. I also hope your country has its own version of this advertisement, with an unrelatably attractive blue collar worker, stirring music, majestic topographical settings, and an inspirational smooth shave.

Close shave, America.

Man, you really drank the koolaid on that one didn’t you? 😀
That’s a beautiful advertisement! Most ads now are just « trash ». Excuse my language! I can’t watch them with my kids around anymore. 🫣
Yeah, this ad is fun. I agree about ads these days, though. I also have to be very careful about leaving the TV on anymore. It appears that our societal standards regarding what is okay for children has dipped a LOT.
That shaving cream can stuff has been popular since that Jurassic Park movie in 1993. Wayne Knight as Denis Nedry had one from Lewis Dodgson. Paid to steal dinosaur embryos from Isla Nublar. He lost it when a venomous Dilophosaurus ran into him and killed him.
Although it is mysterious on how Lewis Dodgson had it before losing it again in “Jurassic World: Dominion”. Before running into three Dilophasauruses as they killed Dodgson. TRUE STORY.
