Site Updates

In case anyone is interested, I have added an Instagram account. With my site plan (or maybe this is just how it works in general on WP) I was not able to add an “Instagram button” at the bottom of my posts, for sharing. Instead, I was required to sync JetPack with an IG business account, so that when I publish a post on WP it will appear on IG simultaneously – without me doing anything else. With my other socials, I just use the share buttons to publish to my socials manually.

So all of that is to say I’m trying to figure out how best to use IG in conjunction with my website. My post from last night published just fine on IG. My “reblog” this morning of an old Quotes post did not. I’ll keep playing around with it, so there might be some weirdness on the site for a day or two, with me trying to figure out the limits of how to publish directly onto IG. There are probably better ways to do these things, but you know…

The worst case scenario is that my new IG site will just be a place where I share reels.

To update my previous “WordPress Issues” post from last month: I eventually got back to normal levels of WordPress Reader traffic, within about a week of that post. However, immediately after that happened, my search engine traffic cratered dramatically. I struggle to believe that the latter was not connected to the former in some way. My overall website traffic over the last three weeks is down by half from where it was in March – and still trending down. I will be going through old posts, re-curating tags, and making minor changes to things to see if that re-attracts the old search engine web crawlers. It’s strange, though. I’ve been through traffic fluctuations before, but this was very much like someone or something flipped an “off” switch.

Save me, Zuck!

Here are my current social media sites. Feel free to follow me if you are so inclined.

    1. Thanks! And yay!

I’m not too worried about the traffic thing, other than fishing for easy possible solutions. But I’d still do this if I had zero traffic. Fortunately, that’s not the case, either. My WP numbers (subs, engagement, etc.) are actually continuing to steadily improve, outside of the dip I mentioned in this post.

It’s fun looking back at my old stats, though. There was obviously a big WP algorithm change after 2021 or so. It took me a couple of years to catch up to the number of likes I used to get per post, when I had 1/5th as many subscribers.

      1. Yeah, I get what you mean. My traffic wasn’t the same after that algorithm change either and it takes much more work to grow now but it’s still worth it. And blogging is still fun even if traffic/following is no longer as much as it once was. Glad your site is still improving overall.

      2. Thanks! Yeah, it’s still growing. My engagement numbers continue to improve, even as my search engine traffic dissipates. I’m not worried about it, though. It’ll come back at some point.
