Latin:

Nunc et in hora mortis nostrae

English:

Now and at the hour of our death

Here is an epic Latin phrase which should be familiar to most practicing Roman Catholics. This is a serious thing to say, though, especially if used on its own as a vow, so say it judiciously.

The phrase is part of the Ave Maria (Hail Mary) prayer in the Roman Catholic Church. For those who are not Catholic, what is that? From Britannica:

Hail Mary, Latin Ave Maria, also called Angelic Salutation, a principal prayer of the Roman Catholic Church, comprising three parts, addressed to the Virgin Mary. The prayer is recited in the Rosary of the Blessed Virgin (see rosary) and is often assigned as penance during the sacrament of reconciliation (confession). The following is the Latin text:

Ave Maria, gratia plena,
Dominus tecum.
Benedicta tu in mulieribus,
et benedictus fructus ventris tui,
Iesus. Sancta Maria, Mater Dei,
ora pro nobis peccatoribus,
nunc, et in hora mortis nostrae. Amen.

If you are unfamiliar with the phrase, as a part of the prayer, you might know it from its use in music. As for that, let us consult Wikipedia:

Sancta Maria is a Latin-language sopranoaria arranged by Steven Pietro Mascagni. It uses some of the same lyrics as Ave Maria and has become a popular concert piece. It also has been recorded by several singers, like Sissel Kyrkjebø, Charlotte Church, Katherine Jenkins and the tenors Andrea Bocelli and Friar Alessandro.

Text:

Ave Maria,
gratia plena,
Dominus tecum,
benedicta, benedicta tu in mulieribus,
et benedictus
fructus ventris tui, Jesus.

Sancta Maria,
Mater Dei,
ora pro nobis peccatoribus,
nunc et in hora mortis nostrae.
Amen.

Sancta Maria,
Sancta Maria,
ora pro nobis peccatoribus
nunc et in hora mortis nostrae.
Amen.
Hail Mary,
full of grace,
the Lord is with you,
blessed, blessed you are, amongst women,
and blessed is
the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.

Sancta Maria,
Mother of God,
pray for us sinners,
now and at the hour of our death.
Amen.

Sancta Maria,
Sancta Maria,
pray for us
pray for us sinners,
now and at the hour of our death.
Amen.
