“When Dad was a young writer, as some of you probably know or even remember, he assiduously sought out the supernatural, hoping to catch a ghost on video, find evidence of a Sasquatch, or meet someone – anyone – with real superpowers. Through all of his study, writing, interviews, and travel, he never definitively succeeded in finding any of those things, so far as I know.

We discussed all of that recently, and when I asked if how he felt about it now, he said that as he gained wisdom, he cared less about trying to find and peer through cracks in the fa├žade of existence and began instead to see and appreciate the miraculous in things like the sunrise, the act of breathing, and love that defies and conquers circumstances like cancer.”
