“Mommy, there’s one more present behind the Christmas Tree!” Emma shouts, and she picks the small box up and brings it to her mother. Julia looks at the wrapping with no recognition, but as she reads the note attached, her face changes from confusion to concern.

“Mark,” she whispers tensely to her husband, “we need to call the police without scaring the kids because he was in our house again and left this.”

    1. I like to think of these three sentence stories as something I might jump off from, someday, in writing a legitimate short story. If I ever figure out what was going on here, I’ll let you know. lol
