“Dad, what are you talking about,” she asked, “you can’t choose an early death over eating healthy food.”

“What I mean,” he answered with insincere solemnity, “is that the things a man finds in life that are worth living for are usually the same things that he thinks are worth dying for, and without something to live for a man is dead already.”

“Well, that’s dark, and I certainly appreciate your gentle way of telling me that I rank somewhere below fried chicken on your list of reasons to live, but you’re going to start eating the salads, anyway.”
