Haha, I know too many people that do that. Loved this SWS.
Thanks! Yeah, this is something I’m pretty passionate about. This particular self-deception is really common and I think it’s deeply unhealthy. A lot of people will refuse to stand up for themselves and then name that refusal “kindness.” By mislabeling something negative with a positive term, the negative behavior get reinforced. Some people even end up feeling kind of self-righteous in that.
Disagreement isn’t inherently unkind. Neither is rebuke. It’s really hard to grow without healthy conflict.
I think it’s reinforced by society. Standing up comes with a lot of negative impacts on your life and that can sometimes be why people would prefer not to do so.
You are definitely right about reinforcement by society. It’s an unfortunate but true reality.
