Good one! Quite profound.
This is a rare auto-biographical story. I once dated a very nice girl who decided to move to California for a grad school program / life / to be on TV / the weather / etc. I did not go with her and did not want to. My career field did not exist much there and even if it did, I had no contacts there to help me out. I also did not want to start over. The whole thing seemed unrealistic for me. (Hence, the story above.)
I suspect that it’s not a too uncommon story in the U.S. for a couple to break up over the fact one of them wants to chase after dreams in far away southern California.
It is not uncommon at all. Happens all the time.
