“This is a beautiful old car and you’ve taken great care of it, so do you mind me asking why you’re selling it?”
“To be honest, I don’t want to,” the old man said, “but my kids are telling me it’s time, I don’t want to fight with them about it anymore, and God help me if something ever happens to prove them right.”
I had a lot of feelings about his answer and the look in his eyes when he gave it, and I wanted to tell him I was sorry, but instead I just told him that I was thankful to be the lucky guy he is selling it to, and then I handed him a check, wished him well, and drove away.
In my mind this cagey old fella is passing off a cursed car like in Christine
LOL. And the younger guy even feels sorry for him when taking it off his hands.
Well done. Very well done. Hits at me from both ends. Youth and age.
Thanks. I thought I’d dip my toe into some dialogue and see how it went. Praise from a master in that art is appreciated.
[Blush]? Consider myself not more than a journeyman, hardly a master.
