Duncan finds out whether it’s possible to have one too many bad guy Quickenings.

Duncan and Richie rush to rescue a very pregnant Anne after hearing on the news that she was trapped underground after a subway pipeline explosion.

Immortal Kristin is killing mortals, which Duncan hates but he cannot make himself take her head because they were once lovers.

Duncan encounters Immortal Kamir, last of the Thuggees, who is determined to reclaim the Kali for India, from Duncan’s university colleague.

MacLeod and Richie witness a murder attempt on a grocer. The killer, Immortal Paul Kinman, is arrested. But Duncan wants his head.

Duncan runs into an old friend named Kit, while Amanda is visiting, and he has to keep the two of them from fighting.

Duncan is pursued by an Immortal who utilizes dogs to fight other Immortals. Richie finds the person who murdered Tessa.

Richie meets a mentally challenged Immortal, Mikey, and asks Duncan for help in protecting him.
